Convert a PDF bank statement to CSV
Export a text-based bank or credit card statement PDF to CSV, with one transaction per row for spreadsheets and imports.
CSV is the plain-text table behind most statement imports. This page is for turning a text-based bank or credit card statement PDF into that file: one transaction per row, commas between fields, and no spreadsheet formatting to strip out later.
What the CSV contains
The columns match the Excel workbook: Date, Description, Debit, Credit, Balance, Category, Account, and Period. Debit and credit stay apart so an import does not have to infer the sign from a description. The file is UTF-8 text. Open it in a spreadsheet if you want to look, or pass it to a script, a data warehouse, or another product that asks for CSV.
CSV is a better handoff than Excel when the next system should read the file without opening a workbook. Excel is a better handoff when a person should review rows first. Both come from the same extraction, so you can download one, check it, and export the other from the finished job.
How to create it
The PDF must contain selectable text. Scanned statements and photos are not converted. The limit is 20 MB. Bank statements and credit card statements both qualify.
Sign in, upload the PDF on the homepage converter, and choose CSV. Free accounts include CSV, Excel, JSON, and Markdown, starting at 5 pages. The file is deleted 24 hours after upload, so download it before then. Prices for longer files are on the pricing page.
Checks that matter for an import
Confirm the header row, the date order, and that descriptions with commas stayed inside a single field. A balance that does not move with the debits and credits is a reason to open the job and edit the row before you import. Do not post the CSV into a ledger until it matches the PDF.
