Convert a bank statement PDF for QuickBooks

Turn a text-based statement PDF into a QBO file you import into QuickBooks. This site does not connect to your QuickBooks account.

QuickBooks can import a bank file. It cannot read a statement PDF on its own. This page is about that gap: take a text-based bank or credit card statement, turn the transactions into a .qbo file, and import that file yourself. There is no connection to a QuickBooks company, and no request for your QuickBooks password.

What the QBO file is

QBO is the QuickBooks form of an OFX statement. The converter writes it from the same rows it uses for OFX: date, description, and amount. If you use Xero instead, the finished job can write a Xero CSV from those rows. If you are still checking the extraction, download Excel first.

QBO, OFX, and Xero CSV are included on Basic, Professional, and Business. They are not included on the free plan. The homepage converter offers Excel, CSV, JSON, and Markdown. After the job finishes, open it and choose QBO. A plan without accounting formats is refused for that download. Excel and CSV still work.

A practical order of work

  1. Confirm the PDF text is selectable. Scanned statements are not converted. The file limit is 20 MB.
  2. Sign in and upload it on the homepage converter.
  3. Open the job and read the date, description, debit, credit, and balance against the PDF.
  4. Edit a wrong row in the job.
  5. Download QBO and import it in QuickBooks with the bank-file import your edition already provides.

Do this before the 24-hour deletion. Every account starts with 5 free pages, which cover the Excel or CSV review. The paid page allowances are on the pricing page.

What this does not do

It does not log in to your bank, pull a feed, or push transactions into QuickBooks for you. You review the file, you import it, and you decide what to post. That limit is deliberate: a PDF conversion can mis-split a line, and QuickBooks should not receive it unseen.

The format guide compares QBO with Excel, CSV, and OFX. The how-to is the short version of the upload.

Upload a statement PDF

Use the converter on the homepage. Sign in with Google, then download Excel or CSV. Open the finished job when you need OFX, QBO, or Xero CSV.
